Xinjiang is a multi-religious area. The major religions there are Islam, Lamaism (Tibetan Buddhism), Buddhism, Christianity, Catholic, Orthodox, and shamanism, in which Islam is the religion believed by more than 10 ethnic groups such as Uygur, Kazak, Hui, Kirgiz, Tajik, Ozbek, Tatar, Salar, Dongxiang, Baoan, etc.. Islam influences Xinjiang's social life in many ways.
Currently, the region has more than 24,000 sites for religious activities, of which 23 900 are mosques and there are 29,000 religious clerics working for all kinds of activities related to religions, which can fully meet the r needs of the masses.
