Kuqa county
The county is located at the the centre of the autonomous region, southern periphery of the Tian Shan range, the northern portion of the Tarim Basin. It occupies part of the eastern portion of Aksu Prefecture. The highway from Kuqa county town to Urumqi 750 kilometers away. It contains an area of 14,528.74 square kilometers, and the total population is 405,894 people (2003), including Uygur, Han, Hui, Kirgiz, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Xibe, Man, Uzbeks and other 14 ethnic nations. It's a compelling tourist destination on the Ancient Silk Road.
Kashgar prefecture
Kashgar prefecture is located in mid-western Xinjiang and the city is the westenmost city of China. There are a county-level city, 10 counties and an autonomous county in this prefecture. The prefectural administrative office is in Kashgar city, which is the political, economic, cultural, transportation and religious center of Kashgar prefecture area. Kashgar is a multi-ethnic prefecture where live 31 ethnics (2005).
