Urumqi
Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is located in the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains. The city opens on to the Junggar Basin in the north with rivers, mountains and vast fertile fields. In the Mongolian language, Urumqi means "Beautiful Meadow". Geographically, Urumqi is the world's farthest city from the sea, which has short spring and autumn and long winter and summer. The temperature difference between day and night is very big. Uygur, Han, Hui, Kazak and other 10 ethnic groups live in Urumqi. Urumqi has a long history. It is located in the New North Road of world famous ancient "Silk Road".
Turpan
Turpan is located in a basin in the eastern Tianshan mountains.It is the connection between the mainland China and the Central Asia. The total population of the region is about 559,000. The ethnic minority, most of which are Uighurs, makes up 77.1% while the Han ethnic accounts for 22.9%. Turpan has a unique climate and thus three major advantages in resources: 1. solar resources; 2. mineral resources; 3. tourism resources.
Flaming Mountain
Flaming Mountain is located in the northern edge of the Turpan Basin in Xinjiang. Ancient books called it "Akaishi Mountain," in Uighur, "the Kezile Tage" (meaning Red Hill), the red sandstone. The mountain is located 10 kilometers northeast of the Turpan city. It is 98 km from the east to the west. and 9 km from the north to the south. the main peak'elevation is 831.7 meters. When summer comes, the mountain will be exposed to the burning sunshine. With the hot air billowing up, the red mountain seems like burning fire. Flaming Mountain is the hottest place of the country. Its averige summer temperatures is above 45 ℃, and the surface temperature can reach 80 ℃。
